Using rise over run to define the slope of a line in a graph
The slope of a line containing the x and y axes is generally represented by the letter m, and is defined as the y in coordinate divided by the corresponding change in the x coordinate, between two distinct points on the line. This is described by the following equation
M represents slope
Slope equals rise over run
Both delta Y over delta X is equal to the slope of a line just like rise over run equals m (the slope of a line).
Delta means the change in. this means the change in something is represented in the form of delta, such as the rise over run be represented as delta Y over delta X.
Delta y = Rise
Delta x = Run
Sonya says that Delta means “the change in”, which then reminded Dennis of what it means concluding that he in fact previously Dennis did know the meaning of Delta.
Dennis then taught Viv this, who previously did not understand it. Then Viv said ok thats better. I understand it now.
This is a graph showing speed. The Y-axis represnts the distance covered in metres and the X-axis shows the time taken in seconds to run the distance. Speed is represnted by the slope of the graph, this is becuase speed = Distance / Time. As the slop gets more verticle it means the speed has increased and when the slope becomes more horisontal it means the speed has decreased. If there is a flat line this shows that time is passing and no distance is being covered, or being stopped. This is called a "zero" Line.
